Trick or Treat? Hallowe'en Footwear: Part 1

Originally produced for Shoe Fanatic and published here.

As we saw in Mean Girls, Hallowe’en is the perfect time to unleash your inner vixen. A night of screams, scares and sweets (Trick or Treat anyone?), All Hallows’ Eve is the perfect opportunity to play out all of your couture cravings and fashion fantasies. In preparation for the spookiest night of the year, we bring you part one of our two-part special on devilish dress-up shoes and how to wear them.

Through the Looking Glass

Tim Burton’s gothic remake of Alice in Wonderland prompted an outbreak of Carroll-inspired fashion lines everywhere from the runway to the high street. With zany, colourful outfits and a whole cast of characters to choose from, it’s the perfect option for Hallowe’en. Whether you’re an Alice fan or a Red Queen fanatic, these black and pink platforms will work with any outfit. How contrary.

Gruesome Girls

With names like ‘Kiss of Death’ and ‘Love Bites’ Iron Fist’s shocking range of flats, heels and boots offer an aesthetically pleasing alternative to Hallowe’en footwear, taking inspiration from gruesome creatures and things that go bump in the night. Strangely appealing, particular favourites include these Zombie platforms, Wolf Beater flats and Heart heels.

Mythic Mavens

Fancy a trip into the world of mythology? With her own take on taxidermy, Roxanne Jackson has used her extensive experience in animal-themed art to create these ‘hoofs’. For a sexy (female or male) Satyr costume, don golden furs, a pair of panpipes and plenty of glitter. If you’re after something a little more heavenly, pair these metallic sandals with a Grecian dress (or even a carefully-arranged bed sheet) for gorgeous goddess style.

Disney Delight

Most girls dream of growing up to be a princess, me? I dreamed of being Cruella DeVille. Yes, she may be a baddy, but you can’t deny it; the girl has style. Ham it up with these (faux) Dalmatian Chelsea or ankle boots, lots of fake fur and a wig (unless you’re willing to get creative with hair dye).

Ballet Babe

More Nutcracker than crypt keeper, these darling nude tie pumps will protect your toes and give an authentic touch to any ballet-beautiful outfits. Hallowe’en is a time to dress up; live out your prima ballerina fantasies with a pink leotard, frilled net skirt and legwarmers.
